Decima is proud to represent
The Decima Artists for a one-year period, starting from the opening exhibition this Saturday, where each artist will exhibit several pieces of their work from different stages of their career and will include brand-new works made especially for this event.
Some exhibiting artists, such as Mark McGowan - who is known for extreme performances which are recorded in the media (for example, "The running tap") - are widely established. Others, such as Byron Pritchard, Ian Wright and Simon Ould, are emerging artists who have already created a varied body of work. Larry McGinity and Geraldine Ryan have been working in different media in London for some years. Paloma Faith and Arron Barshack may not consider themselves artists in the traditional sense, but have contributed to Decima's success via their performances since the gallery reopened, and we are honoured to show them in the exhibition. Other highlights include artists who exhibited at the original Decima Gallery in Bermondsey, for example, Rart & Sete, Louise Camrass, Piers Wardle and Stephen Micalef.
Founding Decima members Derrick Welsh and Guy Hilton will be special guests, along with Gideon Cube-Sherman and The Pound Puppies.
The exhibition begins at 4pm and continues till 8pm with Decima poems from Micalef, a screening of "The Decima Interviews", a song from the Decima Male Voice Choir, The Pound Puppies' performance of "I wanna be your dog", and heavy drinking by all.
The Decima Editions shop will be open as usual. There will also be a barbeque and we will be selling tickets for the Decima Raffle, with prizes including signed artists' books. This unmissable exhibition will only last six hours so be sure to get down to the gallery in Hackney Wicked this Saturday.
Following the event, everyone will be invited to the Decima Artists after party, "Lost Dogs Have More Fun Dancing," at The Haggerston Pub, Kingsland Road, 9pm until late (free entry).
